ASIABEDS' Blue Products

As the largest archipelago on earth Indonesia's numerous small islands are filled with rich, colourful marine life and coral reefs, which are still untouched and beautiful. In Bali there are wonderful snorkeling and diving spots in the west coast, near Padangbai in the east and the islands of Nusa Lembongan or Nusa Penida off the south-eastern coast.

ASIABEDS’ Recommendations

White Water Rafting on the Ayung River (5-6 hours)
The day starts early with a pick up at 07.30 hrs for the journey to the Ayung River, one of Bali’s most popular spot for the adrenalin-rushing sport of white water rafting. The thrill begins the moment you push off from the river bank. It is one-and-a-half hours of “fighting” the waves and rapids along six kilometres of the river. An exciting adventure amidst beautiful scenery. A delicious lunch awaits at journey’s end.

The Underwater World (8-9 Hours)
Early morning pick up at your hotel. Drive to Tulamben for an hour of diving when you get to see the rich marine life, various species of fishes, corals and reefs including a World War II wreck. Lunch follows. Then to Amed for snorkeling and exploring another part of Bali’s rich underwater world.

Garuda Indonesia in Forefront to Halt Spread of Influenza A (H1N1) Virus
Garuda Indonesia is taking numerous measures to prevent the entry of the H1N1 virus to Indonesia.
To prevent the spread of the A Influenza (H1N1) virus in Indonesia, Garuda Indonesia has taken several anticipatory measures and consulted with various airport authorities in Indonesia and in countries served by the airline for the handling of passengers suspected of having been infected by the virus.
Garuda Indonesia also instructs all its aircrew and ground staff to be on the alert for passengers with signs of the virus' symptoms during check-in and boarding, and to carry out the necessary procedures.
Preventive action is also taken on board. Garuda Indonesia's fleet is equipped with a “High Efficiency Particulate” air filter known as “TRUE HEPA”. This technology, one of the finest today, is capable of filtering up to 0,001 micron particles and producing 99.99 percent particle-free air quality inside the aircraft.
In addition, the airline also disinfects the cabin interior of all its aircraft that fly to and from high-risk regions. It also provides sets of mask and rubber hand glove in-flight for all regional and international sectors.

Garuda Indonesia Realigns Routes to Meet with Current Challenging Times
In view of the current economic downtrend and uncertain times Garuda Indonesia is deploying its resources to routes that offers more prospects and economically viable.
On 1 May 2009 Garuda Indonesia launched its once-daily Jakarta-Jambi and Jakarta-Denpasar-Kupang services, operating with a B-737 aircraft.
In the coming months Garuda Indonesia will also begin operating new routes that include Jakarta-Pangkal Pinang in June, Jakarta-Ambon-Ternate in July, Jakarta-Palu in August, Jakarta-Sorong-Manokwari in September 2009, and Denpasar-Brisbane in November 2009.
In view of the current political instability in Thailand Garuda Indonesia has temporarily reduced flight frequencies to Bangkok, from seven to three times a week as of 24 April.
Due to low passenger volume from several foreign destinations caused by the current global economic crisis, the airline has discontinued its thrice-weekly Denpasar-Darwin service. The airline currently flies to Sydney, Melbourne and Perth in Australia.
In line with its fleet development programme Garuda Indonesia will take delivery of a new B737-800NG and A-330 aircraft in June this year.

A CRUISE TO REMEMBER WITH WAKA CRUISE
By Patricia Muljadi

First Impression
For the first time ever I stepped into the luxury catamaran of Waka Cruise for a day cruise under Bali’s sunny blue sky.
As the first time ever I stepped in to the luxury boat for a day cruise under the sunny blue sky,I couldn’t help feeling a jolt of excitement visioning myself soaking up the sun on the boat’s open deck, feasting on fresh grilled seafood after snorkeling, and exploring around Lembongan Island.
The cruise, on a 16-metre catamaran
boat, takes off from Benoa Harbour at 08.30 hrs. An array of fresh fruit juices, soft drinks, coffee and fresh-baked pastries is all laid out for us to enjoy during the two-hour journey to Lembongan. The crew of six men mingles with us and happily answers our every query. It amazes me how they have the answers of every questions we ask them.

Product and Service
On arrival on the island the friendly staff briefs us on the activities we can take part in during our five hours’ stay. These include a tour to the neighbouring village, explore the amazing coral formation and marine life from the glass-bottomed boat, join a snorkeling expedition to come up close and personal with marine life, or just spend the day swimming in the crystal clear lagoon and basking on the golden sandy beach.
Lunch is a sumptuous BBQ and buffet lunch with a variety of delectable food, including many Balinese specialties.
The relaxing day ends with cocktails as
we sail into a magical sunset on our way back to Benoa Harbour.

Verdict
This cruise is certainly memorable in more ways than one. Be it the crew’s good service and warm hospitality, activities on the island or the sunset, all are seamlessly delivered for a perfect escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.

Going Green

PT. Buaya Travel Indonesia Loves Green

The staff of PT. Buaya Travel Indonesia, together with their families, celebrated Green Family Day on 5 April.

The event, supported by Eco-Bali, saw the presentation of two topics – “Reduce, Reuse, Recycle” and

“Say No to Plastic is Fantastic”, which were the main focus of the three-hour fun-filled and informative event.

The implementation of living green should start from our daily routines. By the simple move of separating organic and non-organic waste we are taking a big step in saving the environment.

The staff of PT. Buaya Travel Indonesia and their families are doing just that. They are disposing off waste such as paper, plastics, metals and glass into different bins to be recycled. We also strongly recommend the reduction in the usage of plastic and paper bags. Our staff is now taking reusable non-woven bags with them whenever they go shopping.

ASIABEDS’ Green Recommendation : A Day with Nature

This is a special back-to-nature day spent at Tunjuk Village (Taman Sri Buwana) in Tabanan, which is off the beaten track.

The day with nature begins at 07.30hrs when we pick you from your hotels and take you to Tunjuk Village, a typical Balinese village. On arrival you get to experience the way of life of the local people. This is followed by a visit to the village school and getting to know the pupils. You may bring along children books and school stationeries to give to the pupils. You get the chance to teach and share knowledge with the eager children. Then it’s off to the fields to try your hand at farming - cultivating the land and planting rice. A short trek through the rice field gives you an insight into the existing vegetation around the area. Lunch is a typical Balinese meal prepared by the villagers.

New Domestic Terminal at Jakarta International Soekarno-Hatta Airport

On 14 April 2009 the new Terminal 3 opened to serve domestic destinations. The two airlines operating from this terminal are AirAsia and Mandala Airlines.

Unlike terminals 1 and 2, which were designed with a traditional architectural concept, the Rp300 billion (USD 27.27 million) Terminal 3 is designed with a modern concept as an environmentally friendly and energy-saving building that spreads over three hectares.

The new terminal is designed to accommodate up to four million passengers annually by the two airlines. Terminal 1, previously for domestic flights, and Terminal 2, for international flights, were initially designed to accommodate up to nine million passengers annually. However the passenger movements at both these terminals topped 32 million in the past two years. This has led to both terminals becoming congested. Terminal 3’s opening will help reduce passengers’ movement in Terminal 1 from 16 million to 11 million passengers annually.

Been There Done That

O-CE-N Bali by Outrigger
By Patricia Muljadi

First Impression
A modern-minimalist boutique hotel with condominium styled building combining four room categories of one- to three-bedroom suites.

The suites are all white dominated and feature king-sized bed, a living room with LCD plasma TV, a DVD player, semi-fully equipped kitchenette and a full-amenities bathroom.

Every suite is surrounded by full-length glass windows that allow the sunlight to penetrate generously into it. Some guests, especially the sun-worshippers, may love this particular feature. I however find this a little uncomfortable, especially when there is too much light in my room, with some consequent heating, rendering the cool breeze from the air-conditioner ineffective. Although each panel of the glass window has adjustable blinds, pulling them up and down manually could be a hassle.

I am also taken aback when I discover the bathroom has only a standing shower and small space for a sink, toilet and shower cubicle. The “consolation” is each suite has an outdoor hydro tub. This is indispensable if you want the perfect tan without having to go to the large free-form common swimming pool.

Product and Service
The restaurant and the spa come highly recommended.

C-bistro and Flying Fish

Restaurant serving light Western and local delicacies. The flying fish and fresh seafood are highly recommended, and best served grilled with tasty local spices and sauces. Food portions are generous and pricing affordable. Service is excellent, delivered by its friendly staff. For me, the breakfast of fresh omelet with crispy bacon and grilled tomatoes while enjoying the breath-taking view of Seminyak Bay is definitely an experience to remember.

Spa

The 60-minutes Deep Tissue massage is wonderful, delivered perfectly by the trained therapist. There are various treatments that include Indian-inspired Ayurweda and O-CE-N Signature (two therapist working synchronically on your body) and sun soother.

Verdict
The O-C-E-N Bali by Outrigger is not for those looking for total privacy or peace and quiet. However, the hotel is ideal for those who want sun and fun during the stay in the island. Sun- worshippers and the young crowd will find the hotel ideal due to its proximity to the beach, view of the beautiful sunset, hip nightlife spots nearby, and numerous shops and restaurants.
