O-CE-N Bali by Outrigger
By Patricia Muljadi
First Impression
A modern-minimalist boutique hotel with condominium styled building combining four room categories of one- to three-bedroom suites.
The suites are all white dominated and feature king-sized bed, a living room with LCD plasma TV, a DVD player, semi-fully equipped kitchenette and a full-amenities bathroom.
Every suite is surrounded by full-length glass windows that allow the sunlight to penetrate generously into it. Some guests, especially the sun-worshippers, may love this particular feature. I however find this a little uncomfortable, especially when there is too much light in my room, with some consequent heating, rendering the cool breeze from the air-conditioner ineffective. Although each panel of the glass window has adjustable blinds, pulling them up and down manually could be a hassle.
I am also taken aback when I discover the bathroom has only a standing shower and small space for a sink, toilet and shower cubicle. The “consolation” is each suite has an outdoor hydro tub. This is indispensable if you want the perfect tan without having to go to the large free-form common swimming pool.
Product and Service
The restaurant and the spa come highly recommended.
C-bistro and Flying Fish
Restaurant serving light Western and local delicacies. The flying fish and fresh seafood are highly recommended, and best served grilled with tasty local spices and sauces. Food portions are generous and pricing affordable. Service is excellent, delivered by its friendly staff. For me, the breakfast of fresh omelet with crispy bacon and grilled tomatoes while enjoying the breath-taking view of Seminyak Bay is definitely an experience to remember.
Spa
The 60-minutes Deep Tissue massage is wonderful, delivered perfectly by the trained therapist. There are various treatments that include Indian-inspired Ayurweda and O-CE-N Signature (two therapist working synchronically on your body) and sun soother.
Verdict
The O-C-E-N Bali by Outrigger is not for those looking for total privacy or peace and quiet. However, the hotel is ideal for those who want sun and fun during the stay in the island. Sun- worshippers and the young crowd will find the hotel ideal due to its proximity to the beach, view of the beautiful sunset, hip nightlife spots nearby, and numerous shops and restaurants.
