Been There Done That

Theta Spa by the Sea
By Patricia Muljadi
Theta Spa by the Sea, as its name suggests, is on Kuta beachfront in the Ramada Bintang Bali Hotel. Service is par excellence. It starts when you arrive to keep your appointment, with a buggy car waiting at the hotel’s parking lot to take you to the spa.

First Impression
The spa is chic with a touch of Zen to it. The entrance houses a range of house brand products interestingly packed in various shapes. The lobby is another compelling story with minimalist interior design dominated by Theta’s trademark colours of white washed with touches of sky blue.

Waiting to give me a warm welcome is Tamie Nishino, the Chief of Excellence, and Jeaneke Allow, the Sales and Marketing Manager. As I flip through the menu I see various treatments described in fanciful terms, such as Honey Love, Chocolate Indulgence, Summer Celebration and Tea Purity. However, being an acupressure massage fan myself I decide to have a go on the back-to-basic therapeutic massage.

Product and Service
A therapist explains to me the treatment techniques and then hand me a questionnaire to fill.
She then escorts me to the spa room where she starts the massage. The massage is perfect – the pressure is just right, while the room is cosy and filled with aromatic scent. The session ends with a relaxing foot massage.
I then proceed to the shower. After that Tamie and Jeane join me and my colleague, who has a “Chocolate Indulgence”, which she describes it as “One delicious treatment”.

We stroll through the impressive property and learn more about Theta Spa from our hosts – how and why it combines a wide range of treatments with natural ingredients and some Asian-regions philosophies.

Verdict
Theta Spa by the Sea is one of the most impressive spas I have ever been to, both in terms of the treatment and the atmosphere, not to mention the very attentive and caring staff. From the moment you step into the spa and until you depart, you feel a tingle of excitement, calm, sense of fun and balance all at once.
